Theatres Trust comments on Alexandra Palace as construction begins

On 5 April Alexandra Park and Palace Trust revealed the main construction phase of its East Wing restoration is underway. The Alexandra Palace Theatre is on our Theatres at Risk register 2016.

Alexandra Palace Theatre auditorium is one of the oldest surviving in London. The theatre’s intactness, the quality of its internal and external decoration including the sculpture, plasterwork, historical associations, novelty and rarity of once-popular culture, make it very special. After listing the building as one of our key Theatres at Risk for many years,

Theatres Trust are delighted to see the progress made by Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust’s in the first steps of the theatre’s refurbishment. The project is a huge undertaking and it is fantastic to see their commitment to bringing this important historic theatre back in public use. We look forward to seeing the completed project.
