New Honorary Life Friend announced

We are delighted to announce Mike Sell as a Theatres Trust Honorary Life Friend. Mike Sell is a theatre historian and has been involved with Theatres Trust for over 30 years.

Mike was a key member of the team that produced the ground-breaking Curtains survey, published in 1982. During its production he met John Earl, who he later continued to support when John became Director in 1986. You may have seen Mike’s name in The Stage from 1976 to 2006, as a reviewer, mainly for Chichester Festival Theatre.

Mike co-edited the Trust’s Guide to British Theatres 1750-1950, published in 2000, which became the foundation of the Trust’s theatres database. Since then, with his extensive knowledge of UK and European theatre history, he has written extensively about theatre architects including Frank Matcham in Frank Matcham Theatre Architect published in 1980, and Frank Matcham & Co published in 2008, as well as writing The Theatres and Concert Halls of Fellner and Helmer, published in 2014.

Mike is currently Vice President of the Frank Matcham Society and continues to be an active Friend and rapporteur for the Trust, keeping an eye on progress of theatres at risk, as a guardian of information on our theatres database and as a regular contributor to Theatres Magazine.
