Theatres Trust welcomes approval of Theatre Royal Drury Lane plans

We are pleased that the City of Westminster has approved the planning applications for the works at the Grade I Listed Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The history of this theatre charts the development of the West End as we know it today. This is the fourth theatre to sit on this site and the current building has been through many reimaginings over the past 200 years. With such important buildings a balance must be struck that preserves the history whilst bringing the building in line with the access, comfort and safety standards that we now expect of theatres.

Theatres Trust have worked together with ABTT to provide expert advice ensuring the works respect the buildings past and make it fit for its future. The latest developments mark the beginning of the next chapter for the Theatre Royal, helping it meet the demands of today’s largescale productions and the expectations of modern audiences.

The Trust supported applications 17/08082/FULL & 17/08085/LBC for the refurbishment of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Vinegar Yard and No. 6 Catherine Street, including restoration of the Georgian foyers and alterations to the stage and auditorium.
