Leaseholder steps in to operate Theatre at Risk Peterborough Broadway
Earlier this month the operators of the Peterborough Broadway, one of our Theatres at Risk, ceased trading. This is a blow for a theatre that was beginning to re-establish itself with the local community. The leaseholder Dawe Charitable Trust will be stepping in to reopen the theatre and, as far as is possible, deliver the existing programme as an interim arrangement.
Theatres operate on very fragile business models and particularly in their early stages can be hit significantly by a few weeks of poor attendance. With the weeks of warm weather and the world cup coinciding with critical weeks of programming, the operator was not able to meet its commitments.
Theatres Trust is working to support the Dawe Charitable Trust as they keep the theatre operational and look towards a sustainable future for this theatre.
