Marlowe theatre redevelopment gets the green light

Canterbury council’s development control committee has now approved the £25.2 million plans for a 1,200-seat auditorium at the Marlowe Theatre and a second 150-seat performance space. The plans went through on an 11 for and two against vote.

Aberdare Little Theatre faces uncertain future

One of Aberdare’s most historic buildings is facing demolition to make way for a housing development. The theatre’s trustees sought outline planning permission which was granted last week to develop the sit, which has been unoccupied since the company’s last production in February 2007.

Sites in Manchester city centre are being actively considered for the £250m project to set up a northern outpost of the Royal Opera House. Land would be redeveloped as the key anchor to a “Cultural Quarter” involving the Cornerhouse, the Dancehouse Theatre and the nearby Palace Theatre.
