Stockport Plaza seating restoration underway

The new seating at The Plaza which will be an exact replica of the originals will consist of 4 rows at the front of the stalls without arms which were originally delineated as one price band by having a segregating rope across the aisle, the ring for which can still be seen in our auditorium whilst the remainder of the Stalls will consist of wooden armed high comfort seating.

Portsmouth Theatre threatened with closure after NatWest's 'utter incompetence'

Yet two months on, the issues are still not fully resolved and the business interruption means the Groundlings Theatre is “on the brink” of closure, with problems with its suppliers and ticket sales plunging 90 per cent. Artistic director Richard Stride revealed the theatre is to hold a fundraising event on Sunday as he seeks to cover the estimated £10,000 in lost revenues over the past two months, while he has unsuccessfully sought a loan as well as arts grants.

Tax relief for theatre production

In the Budget today, the Chancellor announced that a new tax relief will be available for the production of theatre and live performance work in ballet, dance and opera. The Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre Association have been working for some time with Arts Council England and colleagues in the Government to ensure the workability of these reliefs, with the Government’s stated aim that it wants this relief to support theatre production in London and around the country; with an ability to not only aim to maintain London’s position as one of the great theatre capitals of the world, but also to boost our regional theatres, providing a strong incentive for touring.
