Capital funding announced for 12 Scottish arts and culture organisations

Creative Scotland is pleased to announce today £9.4m of funding, set aside for 12 arts and culture organisations across Scotland, through the Large Capital Programme.

The recipients of these significant awards, ranging from £0.1m to £1.5m are Aberdeen Music Hall and Woodend Barn in Aberdeenshire; Hospitalfield near Arbroath; the Artist Centre at Cove Park, Dunoon Burgh Hall and NVA’s project at St. Peter’s Seminary in Argyll & Bute; the Fruitmarket and Collective Galleries in Edinburgh; the Citizens Theatre, Tramway, Glasgow Film Theatre, Woodlands Community project and Wasps Artists’ Studios Creation Centre at the Briggait in Glasgow.

The much-loved theatre complex in the heart of Shrewsbury has been dramatically transformed into a £10.5 million museum and art gallery, which will open a new chapter in the history of the centuries-old site. We’ve been given a sneak preview of the new-look building which has remained virtually out of public view for more than five years. And the results are stunning. Gone are the dark carpets, blacked-out windows and deep red walls of its theatre heyday. Instead, the labyrinth of corridors and the vast auditorium of the Music Hall have been opened up to allow natural light to flood in.

Theatre group wants to buy its Malvern venue

Malvern’s leading amateur theatre company is hoping to buy the theatre where it has staged plays for the past eight years. The Coach House Theatre in Grange Road has been the venue for Malvern Theatre Players since 2006, after its conversion from a scenery workshop and store to a fully-fledged studio theatre. It is currently owned by Malvern Hills District Council, who rent it out to the Players, but now the group wants to buy it outright. And on Tuesday, January 28, the council’s executive committee is being asked to approve the sale of the building for an undisclosed sum.
