Penzance's Acorn Theatre is 'back on the arts scene'

A popular Penzance theatre which was forced to close in 2010 due to a funding shortage is “definitely back on the Cornish arts scene”. The Acorn Theatre in Parade Street has announced a significant increase in attendance and income in 2013 after reopening in September 2011. More than 100 public performances were staged over the year covering a varied programme, including 37 music events and 30 theatre performances as well as children’s events, comedy nights, literary evenings, cabaret, dance shows and performance art.

New theatre unveiled in hold of Cutty Sark

21st January 2014

A new studio theatre has been unveiled in the hold of Cutty Sark, the world’s sole remaining tea clipper and major London landmark. The venue is set to launch on 29 January 2014 with a fortnight of performances, including comedians Alan Davies, Griff Rhys Jones, Richard Herring and Ross Noble. There will also be a talk by round-the-world yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, as well as evenings showcasing music and magic.

Northern Stage invites New Theatre idea submissions

Title Pending is part of Northern Stage’s programme for developing new theatre in the north east. The aim is to find “a fresh and inspiring idea for a new piece of theatre. Once we’ve found it, we develop it, we nurture it, we support it and we show it.”

The award is for the most innovative, thoughtful and intriguing proposal for a new piece of theatre from artists or companies who have made a commitment to working in the north east with a unique / surprising / fresh way of looking at the world.
