Council funding for Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Guildford could be cut

The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford is set to lose a second stream of funding, five years after the Arts Council withdrew its financial support. The riverside theatre has hosted productions since 1965 and relies on fundraising and its grant to operate. The venue’s management has warned of “extremely serious repercussions” from any reduction in funding. The theatre will continue to receive an annual Guildford Borough Council grant of £310,220 in 2014/15, but beyond that funding will be phased out.

Architect Richard Rogers: more time needed to consult on Riverside Studios expansion

Millennium Dome architect Richard Rogers has urged for the decision on Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios’ expansion plans scheduled for tonight to be delayed. The leading architect was among supporters calling on Hammersmith and Fulham Council to cancel the planning meeting tonight and extend the consultation period to allow a ‘more informed and constructive discussion about the future of this important arts centre’.

The Society for Theatre Research vacancy for Hon. Treasurer/Membership Secretary

The vacancy for Hon. Treasurer and Membership Secretary offers the opportunity to become involved in the fascinating world of theatre history. In accordance with Charity Commission regulations the Hon. Treasurer is not remunerated (though travel expenses are met for attending meetings which are generally in central London), but the Membership Secretary carries a stipend of £4,000 per annum. The two posts are customarily, but not necessarily combined.

Scarborough's Futurist Theatre faces final curtain

Scarborough’s Futurist is to be boarded up after the borough council rejected plans to more than double its subsidy to the site’s operator to £180,000. Conservative council leader Tom Fox said the theatre’s viability had not been established. The Save Our Futurist group said there was “absolute anger” at the decision.
