Lyric Theatre contract 'likely rigged' says Stormont's spending watchdog

Stormont’s spending watchdog has said it has a “strong impression” that the awarding of the £11m contract for the rebuilding of Belfast’s Lyric Theatre was “rigged and manipulated”. However, the most senior civil servant in the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure has said he did not believe there was evidence to support the claim.

Bennetts advising on Sadler's Wells expansion

The architect behind the Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres overhaul, Rab Bennetts, is advising Sadler’s Wells on its plans for a new 500-seat venue. London’s world famous Sadler’s Wells dance centre announced plans to create a new 500-seat theatre in the capital last week.

While no architect has been appointed to the high-profile job it has been confirmed Rab Bennetts of Bennetts Associates is chairing a buildings committee advising on the project. Designed to host mid-scale contemporary work, the new theatre could open as early as 2018.

Plans for new 500 seat Sadler's Wells theatre announced

London’s world famous Sadler’s Wells dance centre has announced plans to create a new 500-seat theatre in the capital. An architect has yet to be appointed to the high-profile new venue and no location has been confirmed. The project featured in a 10-year plan for the Islington-based dance centre’s expansion announced today (6 November.) Rebuilt by RHWL and Nicholas Hare in 1998, the Sadler’s Wells complex on Roseberry Avenue currently hosts a 1,560-seat auditorium and the 260 person-capacity Lilian Baylis studio. The organisation also manages the 1,000-seat Peacock Theatre in Aldwych.

Schroders and Stanhope have demolished the former Croydon Warehouse

1st November 2013

The demolition, completed 30 October, comes after the duo earlier this year exercised a break clause to take back possession of the Warehouse Theatre building. The duo gained outline planning in July of last year for a Fosters & Partners masterplanned 2m sq ft development on nine acres adjacent to East Croydon Station. The scheme comprises 1m sq ft of offices and 550 homes.
