Unexpected twist as Dudley Hippodrome decision deferred

A unanimous decision by Dudley Council’s Planning Committee to defer a decision on demolishing the historic 1930s theatre building until further investigations had taken place has been met with relief in the town.

Trust set to run Workington Carnegie theatre

A trust is being set up to take over the running of Workington’s Carnegie Theatre. Theatre owner Allerdale council is in discussions with a group of users to eventually turn the theatre into a not-for-profit trust.

Derby Hippodrome: Campaigners back theatre option

Campaigners trying to save a derelict Derby theatre are backing an option to restore it to its former use. A feasibility study commissioned by the city council and English Heritage outlined three possible uses for the building. A full restoration of the theatre would cost about £16m.

‘It is all over’: Man who has kept Scarborough Futurist Theatre going admits

Barrie Stead, who has packed the 2,000-seat venue with big acts, was speaking after a council meeting rejected any hope of saving it. Going further than before, Mr Stead added: “At the end of the day, you can’t argue the fact that the council doesn’t have £3 million to spend on it.”
