Aberystwyth Arts Centre to become part of University Institute

The Arts centre will conduct a review of space as it becomes part of a new university structure. Aberystwyth Arts Centre it is to conduct a review of activities and staffing structures “to ensure resources are fully utilised” and will become part of the University’s new Institute for Literature, Languages and the Creative Arts in August 2013.

Newcastle Tyne Theatre needs £10m to make it to 150th anniversary

The Tyne theatre may not see its 150th anniversary unless around £10m is raised for its restoration and development. The warning has come from Brian Debnam, co-ordinating consultant for The Tyne Theatre and Opera House Preservation Trust in Newcastle, which took over the Grade I-listed theatre on Westgate Road in 2009.

Southwark's Union Theatre fights back against eviction

The Union Theatre in south London has confirmed it will be evicted from its venue by the end of the year, if Network Rail, which owns the archway it is housed within, is successful in its planning application to the local council.

Highgate's Lauderdale House receives £800,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund

The money will be used towards the Lauderdale House Transformed project, which includes redeveloping an upstairs space, currently used to host cabaret performances. Hadley Fraser and Ramin Karimloo are among those who have appeared there.

Taunton groups link up to save Brewhouse

Local groups in Taunton have joined forces to make a bid to run the Brewhouse Theatre as a performing arts venue. Recently formed group Tone Theatre Association, led by councillors Eddie Gaines and Steve Ross, has linked up with Taunton Association of Performing Arts – led by former leader of the local council and founder member of the Brewhouse John Meikle – alongside other community groups to present a joint bid to administrator BDO, which is in charge of the building.

Heritage funding kick-starts a new era for Wakefield Theatre Royal

A multi-million pound project to restore the Theatre Royal Wakefield will kick-start a new era for the Westgate landmark. The theatre has secured £152,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and is is line to secure a further £2.6m to restore the 19th century building to its original state. Executive director Murray Edwards said the project had been a long time coming and was expected to be complete next year.
