Derby Hippodrome Theatre 'museum' plan revealed

Ambitious plans are in the pipeline to create a “modern museum” inside the Hippodrome theatre – if a bid for £5 million is successful. Hippodrome Restoration Trust want to create an “archive of memories”, put together from the people who used the former theatre in its heyday.

Campaign to keep traditional theatre lighting goes global

Empty Barton Green Theatre in New Malden could be demolished by Kingston Council

Kingston Council is considering whether to knock down a derelict New Malden theatre and rebuild it again from scratch. Leader of the council, Councillor Derek Osbourne, said Barton Green theatre could be knocked down as repairing the building would cost too much and would not be economically viable.

£10,000 appeal for Whiteladies Picture House study launched

A £10,000 fundraising appeal has been launched by a group aiming to return the derelict Whiteladies Picture House to its former glory. The cinema, which opened in 1921, has been empty for the last 12 years after showing its last film in 2001. In March, developers who wanted to turn the building into a gym and flats had their appeal against refusal of planning permission rejected. Now the campaign is looking for funds so that a full feasibility study, including a full structural survey and detailed architectural drawings, can take place.
