In the week the Moscow Ballet and Al Murray played to full houses at the theatre, Shanklin Theatre and Community Trust, which fought to save the now thriving venue, celebrated the final transfer of its ownership from the Isle of Wight Council.

Theatre industry launches My Theatre Matters! Campaign

The Stage has launched a nationwide campaign, in partnership with the Theatrical Management Association and Equity, aimed at galvanising support for theatres across the UK. My Theatre Matters! has a dedicated website where audiences can voice their support for their theatre, sign up to the campaign and download information about how to lobby politicians to convince them to continue funding theatres in their area.

Glasgow's Theatre Royal gets £4m in government funding for makeover

Plans to give Glasgow’s Theatre Royal a dramatic facelift have moved a step closer to realisation with a £4m funding boost from the Scottish Government. Scottish Opera hopes to have the £11.5m scheme finished by the time the city hosts the Commonwealth Games next year, which will also mark 40 years since the opera company bought the venue.

Plan to transform Welholme Galleries into theatre and community hub gathers pace

The £1.25 million plan to transform Welholme Galleries into a theatre and community hub is gathering pace. The group behind the project has moved into premises close to the iconic Grade II-listed building, to work closely with the community. The plan was launched last summer, and members have since been working hard to secure support and funding, and is in ongoing talks with North East Lincolnshire Council.

Work on London's Alexandra Palace begins

Essential work to bring Alexandra Palace back to its former glory has begun. Work is being carried out on the South Terrace, East Buildings and Victorian Theatre roof and are being partly funded by English Heritage and Alexandra Palace Trust.

Bognor Regis’ £6.5 million theatre plan set for vote

13th March 2013

Plans to create a modernised £6.5 million theatre in Bognor Regis have been given the go-ahead by a local council committee. Proposals to increase the seating capacity of the Alexandra Theatre, build a new rehearsal studio and create a new bar and cafe were agreed by Arun District Council’s Bognor Regis regeneration subcommittee.

A new eco-friendly theatre for Montpellier

With the project of building a new site at the domaine d’O, the Jean-Claude Carrière theatre, the president of the Conseil Général de l’Hérault and l’Assemblé départementale reinforce their commitment to the cultural sector. Considering the success of cultural events currently taking place at the domaine d’O, the present theatre (with a capacity of only 220 seats) has reached its limits. The theatre is supposed to be finalised in june 2013 and will be inaugurated in september

Stoke-on-Trent City Council reverses New Vic Theatre funding plans

11th March 2013

New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme was due to see its funding of almost £70,000 from Stoke-on-Trent City Council cut altogether by 2017. The local authority said its subsidy would be reduced to £45,000 this year, but would not be cut further over the next two years. The theatre said it depended on local funding to attract national grants.
