Small Grants Scheme £5,000 plays part in Newark Robin Hood theatre restoration

The Robin Hood Theatre Company has been given the money by The Theatres Trust small grants scheme towards the refurbishment of the theatre at Averham. It is estimated the total cost of the refurbishment will be around £120,000, of which £31,750 has been raised so far.

IN PLACE OF A SHOW A lecture series by Augusto Corrieri

What happens inside a theatre when nothing is happening? What do theatre buildings do? In place of a show is a series of lecture-works exploring five theatre buildings around the world. Through a playful combination of photographs, 1st person narratives, and historical research, the five episodes of In place of a show draw subtle connections between animate and inanimate matter, architecture and weather patterns, things and nothings.

Hoardings up as £7m redevelopment work starts at Plymouth Theatre Royal

Work has started on the £7million redevelopment of the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. Hoardings are being put up around the piazza area and main entrance of the theatre by contractors BAM, ahead of work getting under way and site offices being installed.

Carlisle Theatre launches capital campaign to avert closure

The lights could go dim permanently at the historic Carlisle Theatre — unless the community steps up to help save it. The theatre, which opened in 1939, launched the save The Carlisle Theatre Capital Campaign this month to purchase and install new digital projection and sound equipment that film companies are requiring of theaters, and make numerous repairs to keep the venue open.

HLF launches £3m community heritage fund

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has launched a new fund for community groups that want to discover and share their local heritage. Sharing Heritage will provide funding of about £3m each year to a wide-range of projects across the UK, from local archaeology to researching community’s cultures and traditions and holding festivals and events to commemorate the past.

Glasgow's Citizens Theatre announces architects for major capital redevelopment

The Citizens Theatre announces today that architectural practice Bennetts Associates has been selected to work on the plans for a major redevelopment of its iconic B-listed Gorbals home. This will be the most comprehensive redevelopment of the building since it opened as a theatre in 1878.

Volunteers could replace stewards at Cardiff’s New Theatre and St David’s Hall

15th February 2013

Cardiff Council is considering cost-cutting proposals to reduce the number of stewards employed at New Theatre and St David’s Hall by filling some roles with volunteers. The roles under threat are those of stewards who undertake meet and greet duties including showing audience to seats, but not cash-handling.
