Glasgow's Citizens Theatre announces architects for major capital redevelopment

The Citizens Theatre announces today that architectural practice Bennetts Associates has been selected to work on the plans for a major redevelopment of its iconic B-listed Gorbals home. This will be the most comprehensive redevelopment of the building since it opened as a theatre in 1878.

Volunteers could replace stewards at Cardiff’s New Theatre and St David’s Hall

Cardiff Council is considering cost-cutting proposals to reduce the number of stewards employed at New Theatre and St David’s Hall by filling some roles with volunteers. The roles under threat are those of stewards who undertake meet and greet duties including showing audience to seats, but not cash-handling.

£4m revamp of Stockton's Globe Theatre stalls

The much-anticipated revamp of Stockton’s historic Globe Theatre has stalled while a bid is made for lottery cash. When the £4m revamp of the legendary music venue began in earnest at the start of 2011, it was hoped the doors would be open for concerts by the end of 2012. But a recent report to Stockton Council’s Cabinet suggested the refurbished Globe – which once played host to bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones – would not open until autumn 2015.

Chance to snag a seat tribute at the Sevenoaks Stag

A seat in the Stag could be marked with the name of a loved-one forever after the launch of a campaign to replace the auditorium’s seating and carpet. The 456 chairs in the Sevenoaks entertainment venue have given almost 30 years of service, and are due to be replaced with softer seats that will provide more leg room.

RSNO unveils plans for new Glasgow home

14th February 2013

A £500,000 campaign to have a new home ready for Scotland’s flagship orchestra ready in time for the Commonwealth Games was launched today – as it emerged the cost of the project had risen by 40 per cent in the space of two years. The RSNO, currently operating from cramped headquarters at the Henry Wood Halls on Claremont Street, said it had now raised £1.25m through its own fundraising efforts thanks to private donors and sponsorship deals, with £500,000 of that going towards the final “fit-out” costs.

Southbank Centre to unveil redevelopment plans

Plans for an overhaul of its Festival Wing, which includes the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery complex, will be exhibited to the public from March 7 in an exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall.

Moray council approves 100% cut in arts funding

14th February 2013

Moray council has agreed to cut £30m from its budget over the next three years with warnings of major cuts to services including the complete removal of funding for the arts. The withdrawal of funding for arts in Moray will seriously affect local theatre – among other arts groups – and could mean that touring troupes like the Royal Shakespeare Company would be unlikely to return.
