National Theatre Wales’ Executive Producer Lucy Davies appointed Executive Director at the Royal Court Theatre

Lucy Davies, who has been Executive Producer at National Theatre Wales since its launch, is to leave the company to become Executive Director at the Royal Court Theatre, London. She will take up her new post in April 2013, joining Vicky Featherstone as she succeeds the Royal Court’s current Artistic Director Dominic Cooke.

Curtain set to go up again at The Butts Theatre in Coventry

The Butts Theatre was closed in January 2009 which the Earlsdon Park development close to the city centre went ahead. But now its doors will open once again later this year thanks to the efforts of the community, led by the Albany Theatre Trust. Since its inception in July 2010, the trust has managed the assets of the theatre and raised funds for its refurbishment. It has also put together a team of volunteer experts to drive it rebirth.

Press release: First grants announced by Theatres Trust from its Theatres Protection Fund

HQ Theatres has announced that Christopher Glover has been appointed to run Dartford’s Orchard Theatre. As the new theatre director, Glover will succeed Andy Hill, who recently became chief executive of the Grand Opera House in Belfast.

Labour of love to resurrect Shakespeare’s lost London Rose

The Rose Theatre Trust hopes to hear in the next few days that it has got around £250,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to take forward its plans for the first of the Bankside theatres – rediscovered 24 years ago and for 23 years buried again beneath a modern office block, its remains only two-thirds excavated.
