Littlehampton Town Council propose threatened Windmill Theatre as Asset of Community Value

Littlehampton Town Council Planning and Transport Committee have proposed that the Windmill Theatre, the Swimming & Sports Centre, the Maltravers Park, and the Norfolk Pleasure Gardens should be listed as Assets of Community Value.

Weymouth Pavilion Theatre may be demolished

27th November 2012

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is considering knocking down Weymouth Pavilion in a bid to cut its annual spending by £3.9m by 2019-20. A council report reveals it needs more than £3m of works over 10 years to ensure the building remains safe. In February, councillors voted to save the pavilion by reversing funding cuts that would have led to its closure.

Globe's new Sam Wanamaker indoor theatre to be lit by candles

A new indoor theatre being built next to Shakespeare’s Globe in London is to be named after the Globe’s founder Sam Wanamaker. The team behind the project have revealed that plays at the new theatre will be predominantly lit by candles. The venue is intended to be the most complete recreation yet of an indoor Jacobean theatre.

Hull Truck Chief goes

Hull Truck Theatre has parted company with its chief executive Andrew Smaje in a surprise move, after two years in the post. Smaje’s tenure at Hull was marked by controversy over funding and falling audiences, a poor relationship with its iconic former boss John Godber, and allegations of unrest amongst theatre staff.

Lyric Hammersmith begins £16.5m facelift 'at the heart of town centre renewal'

The Lyric Hammersmith officially broke ground today on an ambitious £16.5 million development at the heart of a town centre regeneration. The project sees the addition of a two-storey extension for more education work and is the first major facelift for the building in 30 years.

Helston community centre cash request to help fund 'cultural quarter'

The trust behind plans to renovate the former community centre on Penrose Road have asked Helston town council to use cash from the sale to help create a ‘Cultural Quarter’. In August this year the building was purchased by two benefactors, Karen Townshend and Nicholas Serota, director of Tate, to “ensure that the building could continue to provide public benefit”. Teresa Gleadowe and Karen Townshend from Cornubian Arts and Science Trust (CAST), set up to manage the building, made the request for help and cash at the town council meeting on Thursday, November 15.

Theatre Royal Building to expand Radisson Blu Edwardian, Manchester November 26, 2012

London-based Edwardian Group has acquired the Theatre Royal Building sited next door to its Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Manchester, and will use it to substantially expand the hotel and its facilities.

Dundee Whitehall Theatre staging musical in bid to save 'local treasure'

The Whitehall Theatre went bust last year but the curtain did not come down because it was taken over by new management. The business still struggles, however, and all profits from a new staging of the Sound of Music will go directly to the theatre.
