Inside Bradford's historic Odeon

Supporters of the Bradford Odeon must have feared the worst for the interior of the landmark building, it having suffered a decade of neglect and been shrouded in plastic sheeting for several months. But, as new pictures show, the inside of the historic former concert hall and cinema remains remarkably well preserved, giving campaigners hope it can be restored to its former glory.

Wales Millennium Centre wins UK Award for Sustainability & Environmental Impact

Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford among post-war buildings listed by Ed Vaizey

One of the first post-war provincial theatres to be funded by public subscription, the Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford, Surrey, has been listed Grade II by Ed Vaizey, Culture Minister with responsibility for heritage and architecture policy.

Coalition ‘ducked the issue’ of Nantymoel's Berwyn Centre

Bridgend council’s wellbeing chief councillor Lyn Morgan has said the Rainbow Alliance coalition – which ran the authority between 2004 and 2008 – shirked a decision to close the Berwyn Centre in Nantymoel during their term in charge. On Monday 8 October the current Labour-led authority pressed ahead with their controversial plans to close the historic community centre and former miners’ hall next month and bulldoze it soon after, despite calls from a scrutiny committee to hold off for a more detailed structural survey of the ageing building.

The Secretary of State, after consulting English Heritage, has decided to list the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford at Grade II. The Trust submitted an application to statutorily list the theatre in May 2011.
