RHWL Arts Team to rejuvenate Tara Arts in Wandsworth

RHWL Arts Team has been appointed for the renovation of Tara Arts, a cross-cultural theatre in Earlsfield in the London Borough of Wandsworth. RHWL Arts Team’s brief is to upgrade the theatre building and audience experience, boosting capacity to 100 seats, creating a more flexible space for performances, a new rehearsal space and making the venue fully accessible to audience, staff and artists.

Mystery fault delays £4m Yarmouth St George's theatre project

13th July 2012

Engineers working on the £4m St George’s Chapel project have uncovered a structural fault in the new-build pavilion, prompting an investigation and further delays. Oak columns in curtain walls have moved out of true vertical alignment, and engineers do not yet know the cause. The much-anticipated arts venue is already six months behind schedule, with no indication given as to when the theatre will open.

Future of Margate's Theatre Royal 'at risk'

The Theatres Trust said the Theatre Royal in Margate, which first opened in 1787, was one of 49 theatres across the UK facing an uncertain future. It said it feared it could stop operating as a playhouse after the firm which ran it went into administration. Thanet Leisure Force, which now runs the theatre, only has a one-year contract, the trust said.

Opening date for Workington's Carnegie Theatre

12th July 2012

A theatre which has being undergoing a major £200,000 facelift is scheduled to reopen in six weeks. The Carnegie closed its doors to the public in May as its major transformation began. New seating is being installed, changing rooms rebuilt and a host of other improvements carried out to the interior and exterior of the building in Finkle Street, Workington.

The second act: How Shoreditch Town Hall could become a major new performing space

For the past 40 years or so Shoreditch Town Hall has hung slightly back from Old Street looking a little forgotten and forlorn – its once grand facade no longer fashionable, accruing grime and muck. At one point the roof almost fell in and English Heritage had to put the Grade II-listed building on the “at risk” register. But, in a way, all that might have worked in its favour. The developers have ignored it.

Darlington Arts Centre added to at-risk theatre register

The soon-to-be former Darlington Arts Centre has been added to a list of at-risk theatre buildings across the UK. Nearly 50 buildings feature on the theatre buildings at risk register, published by the Theatres Trust yesterday. The trust says a lack of care and investment leaves such buildings vulnerable to neglect.

Historic Great Yarmouth Regent Theatre placed on ‘at risk’ list

9th July 2012

The Regent was placed on the Theatres At Risk list 2012 along with 48 other theatres across the country. The Edwardian gem, nestled in the heart of Great Yarmouth, has been empty since Mecca bingo pulled out in December last year and now the building is at risk of being lost, according to the Theatres Trust.
