Scenofest is a major part of World Stage Design 2013. Applications to bring performances to Scenofest are now open! Companies and artists from the UK and around the world are being invited to apply to bring performances to Scenofest, WSD2013. Applications are encouraged from a broad range of work, and could include collective or solo shows, live art and installation, public participation pieces and everything in between.

AQ Launches Findings on Philanthropy in the Arts: Agenda failing to inspire sector

Arts Quarter has announced the findings from its survey of arts organisations, asking them to comment on the effectiveness of the Government and various agencies to deliver on the Philanthropy in the Arts Agenda – a set of 10 landmark proposals launched in December 2010 by Culture Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt to improve levels of private sector giving to the arts.

Unforgettable opening for Belfast's Metropolitan Arts Centre as 5,000 visit venue

The opening weekend of Belfast’s newest arts venue the MAC was a huge success, with more than 5,000 visitors passing through its doors. Nearly a decade in the making, the £18m building in Saint Anne’s Square officially opened on Friday, and is well on its way to achieving its target of 120,000 visitors in a year.

Making the CASE: the cultural evidence base

CASE, the Culture and Sport Evidence Programme, aims to strengthen understanding of how best to deliver high quality culture and sporting opportunities to the widest audience. It’s a joint programme of strategic research lead by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in collaboration with Arts Council England, English Heritage, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and Sport England.

Refurbished Edinburgh Assembly Rooms unveils Fringe line-up

The new operator of Edinburgh Fringe venue the Assembly Rooms has unveiled its programme for this year’s event, promising to keep prices down and cut out the venue’s infamous queues. The £9.3 million refurbishment to the Assembly Rooms by the city council, which owns the building, is due to be completed in June. Salt’n’Sauce promotions, which also runs the Stand comedy clubs, has taken over the fringe tenancy for a five-year.

Lincoln College Oxford to refurbish Arts Centre

Competition opens for temporary sustainable theatre as part of World Stage Design 2013

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is seeking temporary theatre proposals to be built in Cardiff as part of the World Stage Design 2013 festival in Cardiff. The contest is open to students and young professionals who graduated in the past three years. Collaborative proposals are also welcome.

Research finds energy efficiency not dependent on theatre size

26th April 2012

New research has revealed that the size of a theatre does not dictate how efficiently it uses energy. The study was carried out by the green arts organisation Julie’s Bicycle, which used data from more than 100 performing arts venues to create a series of benchmarks about energy usage. During the course of this research, JB discovered that no size of venue or type of art form was necessarily more or less energy efficient than another.
