Thrillingly, Arts Council England has become the first funding body in the world to embed environmental sustainability into its funding programmes. Liverpool’s Royal Court theatre starts first phase of restoration work

Refurbishment begins this week on the Royal Court theatre in Liverpool with the first phase of its planned £10.6m renovation getting underway. Workmen have spent the past fortnight dismantling the stalls’ cabaret-style fixtures and stripping out the rows of seats in the Art Deco theatre’s circle ahead of the start of the revamp.

Survey: Philanthropy in the Arts Survey 2012

A year on from the Philanthropy in the Arts Consultation, Arts Quarter are conducted a review to assess what progress has been made to incentivise philanthropy by Government, the DCMS, ACE and HLF from the perspective of arts organisations. In addition to exploring the arts communities’ views around the Agenda as a whole and how these may have shifted, this research project looks to gather data on perceptions of what has been delivered to date and the effectiveness of these initiatives to deliver. They also intend to gather data on trends in individual giving – a key element in the Philanthropy Agenda as well as looking at how organisations themselves may have moved on in their fundraising thinking since this time last year.

Shakespeare's Globe launches £1.5 million matched-giving scheme towards the building of the Indoor Jacobean Theatre

Shakespeare’s Globe today announced the gift of £1.5 million from an anonymous private donor for a matched-giving scheme to help the Globe reach its fund-raising target of £7 million towards the new Indoor Jacobean Theatre. For every pound raised by the Globe, it will be matched from the £1.5 million pool, bringing the fund-raising total to £4.5 million.

ACE to include ‘green clauses’ in funding contracts

Arts Council England is to incorporate eco-friendly clauses into its funding agreements with national portfolio organisations, making it the first arts funding body in the world to have environmental sustainability as a requirement of subsidy. Speaking at the Tipping Point Conference in Newcastle today, ACE chief executive Davey announced a partnership with arts environmental specialists Julie’s Bicycle.
