Unease over fears Ilford's Kenneth More theatre could be closed down

Rumours about the future of the Kenneth More Theatre are having a “devastating” effect on staff at the 37-year-old playhouse. Council leader Cllr Keith Prince failed to quash rumours, which emerged at the weekend, that the council plans to close the venue and move amateur dramatic productions to the Sir James Hawkey Hall, Broomfield Road, Woodford Green.

Nursery plans for former Garrison Theatre in Colchester

A businessman has been unveiled as the possible new owner of Colchester’s former Garrison Theatre. Tim Fergus, who grew up in Colchester, is planning on turning the site into a nursery and eventually employing up to 25 full-time staff.

Edinburgh's former Gateway Theatre at risk as student flats plan set for go-ahead

One of Edinburgh’s oldest theatre buildings is set to be demolished to make way for student flats despite dozens of objections from local residents. Developers want to use the site of the former Gateway Theatre on Elm Row to build a new development to accommodate 155 students. The “high- quality” student accommodation will include a cinema, gym, seminar rooms and communal lounge areas for its residents.

Rinaldo in talks to reopen Peterborough's Broadway Theatre

Liverpool Royal Court hopeful ahead of crucial Heritage Lottery Fund visit

Royal Court Theatre is hoping to take a step nearer to securing funding for a £10m refurbishment of one of the city’s most historical venues. Heritage Lottery Fund officials will visit the landmark building to assess whether a further £1.3m will be granted to the Royal Court Theatre Trust. The Trust has already received around £100,000 from the organisation to develop plans for the renovation, which will preserve the theatre’s art deco architecture.

Cash shortfall at Edinbrugh Festival City Theatres Trust puts city venues at risk

Fears are growing for two of Edinburgh’s best-known theatres as the trust that runs them faces a deepening cash crisis. Auditors have warned that there is a doubt about the ability of the Festival City Theatres Trust, which runs the King’s and Festival theatres, to “continue as a going concern”. The warning is contained within financial accounts for the trust that have not yet been published publicly and indicate the extent of the financial crisis that the organisation is facing.

Newark Palace Theatre faces cash savings plan

Plans to slash the number of performances and increase charges at a Nottinghamshire theatre have gone out to public consultation. Newark and Sherwood District Council said Newark’s Palace Theatre already gets nearly £380,000 in subsidies. Lower than predicted ticket sales could add £66,000 to this, which the council has said it cannot afford.
