Currently in its fourth year, the Knight of Illumination Awards was established to recognise the talents of lighting designers working across the creative arts in the UK.

New school performing arts centre opened in Hammersmith

The Antony Lillis Performing Arts Centre – named after Hammersmith & Fulham’s former cabinet member for community, health and children’s services, who died in August 2009 – was opened on Friday May 13. The centre includes the Dinesh Ramjee theatre, classrooms and changing rooms, with the existing gym having been refurbished to become part of the building at the Henry Compton School .

As part of the Bush Theatre’s 32 Degrees West Season – the angle from the front door of the company’s current home of 39 years, to the new home at the old Library in Shepherd’s Bush where they will relocate this autumn – the company is to stage Where’s My Seat. Ahead of the building’s inaugural season later this year, the company is throwing open the doors of the new venue and inviting the public to play a part in the transformation of the space, from library to theatre.

Bingley Little Theatre looking at taking control of Bingley Arts Centre

A theatre company is in negotiation with Bradford Council over taking control of Bingley Arts Centre. Trustees at Bingley Little Theatre have approached the Council in a bid to run the centre, in Main Street, for the Bingley community. It may be the first of Bradford Council’s assets to be put in public hands as the authority looks to save about £30 million in its leisure budget.

An open-air theatre on the edge of Bodmin Moor is hoping to go carbon-neutral in the next few years. Sterts Theatre has cut its energy bills by having solar panels installed on the roof of its main office building.

Support needed for Bexhill Curzon

23rd May 2011

Two former managers of the Curzon cinema in Western Road have joined the argument over its future. Both say they are writing to Rother District Council to object to plans to develop the site as a retail unit and flats. The building was previously granted permission for a part change of use to sui generis use, i.e., to become a theatre.
