Edinburgh's King's Theatre in line for a £3m revamp but £20m of work still needs done

Despite the £3m overhaul, the King’s Theatre still needs a lot more spent to keep it up to scratch. Work to revamp one of Scotland’s most iconic theatre buildings will finally get under way in September – but on a much smaller scale than expected.

Less than £3 million is to be spent overhauling the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh, despite estimates over the past ten years that more than £20m needs to be spent to bring it up to scratch.

Fate of Llanelli town's listed theatre 'still unknown'

The future of one of Llanelli’s landmark buildings is still unknown, say council bosses. Carmarthenshire Council says it is still exploring all possible options for the future of Theatr Elli. A spokesman said that the council had “nothing” planned for the grade two listed building as yet.

Hopes rise for Northumberlands theatre funding

A desperate cash crisis for Alnwick’s theatre scene could be eased as fresh hopes of funding emerge. Both Alnwick Playhouse and Northumberland Theatre Company (NTC) were left fearing for their future after a three-year funding bid was rejected by Arts Council England. However, at a meeting of Northumberland County Council’s Area Committee North on Monday, both were told they would not be abandoned and hopes were raised that alternative funding pots will be available.

Liverpool Everyman redevelopment competition opens

The region’s biggest construction firms are expected to compete in the eagerly awaited contest to rebuild the Everyman theatre in Liverpool. The initial tender document published by Liverpool & Merseyside Theatres Trust values the job at £13.5m excluding demolition and contingency costs.

Arts world protest grows over Strathclyde Uni theatre cuts

One of Strathclyde University’s alumni, Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos, has condemned plans to drastically cut support for arts and culture. The university is planning to close down the Ramshorn Theatre and Collins Gallery as well as sacking its head of music, Alan Tavener.
