Plans to demolish Barry Theatre Royal are to be considered today

Controversial plans to demolish the historic Theatre Royal in Barry and build a care complex on the site are to be considered today. The scheme by Cardiff-based Hafod Care involves knocking down the 101-year-old Theatre Royal Building in Broad Street and building an “extra care” complex of 42 flats in its place.

'Sad day for Derby Theatre' as £700k ACE funding bid fails

Derby Theatre lost its bid for Arts Council cash after its submission was branded “weak” in all categories, it has been claimed. The theatre was the big loser as the Arts Council announced its funding for the three years starting in April 2012. Backed by Derby University, it had hoped to secure more than £700,000 a year to fund home-grown productions and was convinced that it had a “strong bid”.

Wakefield Theatre lose £150,000 in ACE funding cut

Theatre Royal Wakefield learned that it would receive any arts council funding post March 2012. In an announcement by Arts Council England, approximately 200 organisations have been told that they will receive no financial assistance whilst others have had their funding reduced significantly.

Norwich arts organisations’ delight at Arts Council funding announcement

Five Norfolk arts bodies will receive funding totaling more than £5.1m across three years, from 2012. The Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich Writers’ Centre and Norwich-based dance company Tilted Productions have all received increased grants.

Belgrade Theatre and Warwick Arts Centre secure Arts Council funding

The Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre and Warwick Arts Centre have secured Arts Council funding for the next three years. There had been fears that the venues would suffer “devastating cuts” after the government slashed the Arts Council budget by 29.6per cent. But Belgrade Theatre bosses were happy with today’s announcement – despite seeing a 4.5 per cent drop in funding.

Celebrations for Oldham Coliseum after funding boost

Oldham Coliseum is celebrating after securing £600,000 in funding from the Arts Council England. The grant had been at risk after the government spending review axed around £100m from the Arts Council’s annual grant. But the Coliseum is delighted to have been included in the national portfolio of organisations to receive support.
