Sir Peter Hall attacks 'insane' arts cuts

Theatre veteran Sir Peter Hall has described cuts to arts funding as “insane” in a speech at the Evening Standard theatre awards in London. Sir Peter, who has just turned 80, was being honoured for his contribution to world theatre. He urged an audience – packed with top actors and directors – to make “loud noises” against budget cuts. “It’s insane,” Sir Peter said. “I feel really ill at the thought of over 50 years thrown away.”

Norwich Theatre Royal reaches its £10m fundraising target

Norwich Theatre Royal’s major fundraising drive for its £10m refurbishment is finally complete, it was announced at the theatre’s AGM yesterday. The modernization of the theatre building was funded thanks to the support of a huge amount of individuals, businesses and trusts, and at yesterday’s meeting Peter Wilson, the theatre’s chief executive, said a big thank you to everyone involved.

Swansea Little Theatre's bid for makeover votes

The announcement was made at the organisation’s annual general meeting yesterday as the theatre also celebrated the completion of its major fundraising drive for the venue’s £10m refurbishment.

The first performance of a new festive show at Derby Theatre has been cancelled due to safety concerns about the stage. The Wind in the Willows was due to open for a preview on Saturday night, but theatre managers said it has been called off.

Cinderford firm creates bricks for Shakespeare's theatre

A Forest of Dean firm has played its part in the re-opening of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s two revamped theatres in Stratford-upon-Avon. The RSC opened the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the Swan Theatre to the public on Wednesday, 24 November, following a £112m refit.
