Theatre Royal in Dumfries seeks urgent repairs funding

A survey of Scotland’s oldest working theatre has found urgent repairs and maintenance must be carried out to safeguard its future. Councillors are being asked to back a set of improvements at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries costing £225,000.

The show will go on at York Theatre Royal despite cuts of £42,000

York Theatre Royal chiefs are confident they can ride out a £42,000 cut in funding from the Arts Council. The 6.9 per cent reduction – from £608,769 this year to £566,764 in 2011/12 – follows a huge cut in funding for the council from the coalition Government, but is not as bad as staff had feared.

Bristol Arts groups lose £265k from budgets

Arts organisations in Bristol will have their funding slashed by £265,000 next year as a result of government spending cuts. Sixteen groups in the city, including the Bristol Old Vic theatre, Arnolfini arts centre and Watershed media centre, will have Arts Council grants totalling £3.8 million cut by seven per cent.

Basford New Vic theatre hit by £69,000 arts funding cut

The New Vic Theatre has been hit with a huge funding cut in the wake of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review. The Basford theatre has had £69,000 of its Arts Council England (ACE) funding withdrawn with effect from next year.

Exeter theatres to lose funding as Arts Council cuts back

Exeter Phoenix and Theatre Alibi are among the groups which will lose funds after Arts Council England revealed it was slashing its grants budget from £449 million to £349 million by 2015. Exeter Phoenix’s award will be reduced by £3,522 in 2011/12, and Spacex will lose £8,747.

Take one in Gwent Theatre bid

A campaign to save a schools theatre company from closure was boosted by the launch of a short film and series of adverts on the internet today. Twenty film students from the International Film School at the University of Newport lent their support to the Abergavenny-based Gwent Theatre by making a film which can be viewed on You Tube.

Belgrade Theatre and Warwick Arts Centre lose thousands in government cuts

The Belgrade Theatre and the Warwick Arts Centre will lose large chunks of council funding following arts cuts announced by the government yesterday. The Belgrade has had £72,500 slashed from its £1 million budget while Warwick Arts Centre will lose £36,000 from a budget of £526,000.
