Odeon & Little Roodee are revealed as preferred sites for multi-million pound Chester theatre

Chester’s much-loved Odeon building could be transformed into a £38m state-of-the-art theatre complex – and cinema. The currently empty listed building in Northgate Street has emerged as the surprise option after two preferred sites were unveiled by Cheshire West & Chester Council.

Or A New Life For Old Theatres Committee” which originally researched and published its ground-breaking gazetteer of theatres built in Great Britain before 1914.

Emergency repairs to Derby Hippodrome building almost completed

2nd November 2010

A 5-week emergency repair programme for Derby’s Hippodrome is on track to finish this week.The final parts of the work are being carried out today with some of the flashings being replaced. The site will then be cleared up and the hoardings removed by Friday. Macklin Street is due to reopen during the week starting November 15

Views sought on Guildford's Bellerby Theatre site plans

Residents’ views are being sought on plans to develop an old theatre site in Surrey. The scheme would see the former Bellerby Theatre site in Guildford turned into a mixture of affordable homes and other residential buildings. It includes the theatre, Victoria Court sheltered accommodation, some community buildings and an industrial unit.

Cuts could force price of theatre ticket up to £100

Government cuts could cause ticket prices for arts events to rocket and drive world-class performers out of the region, a leading venue boss has warned. Julia Fawcett – head of the Lowry in Salford – claims cuts to subsidies could even force prices for top-class theatre, dance and music concerts beyond £100 – well beyond the reach of most families.

Campaigners continue fight to bring theatre to Leek

Action group Parkside Trust is expected to press ahead with its plans to bring a theatre to Leek by leasing the possible venue using its own funds. The trust has been offered nearly £8 million by a group of five mystery benefactors to convert the Foxlowe, in Market Place, into a 450-seat theatre.

In Pictures: Corby Cube opens

The £40 million pound Corby Cube opened its doors for the first time on November 1st. Its450 seat theatre is known as The Core and is run by a sister organisation to Northampton’s Royal & Derngate. Dignatories cut a cube-shaped cake to celebrate the opening.

£483,000 grant helps theatre 'laboratory' in Wales

Actors in the The Persians production friom National Theatre Wales Productions have been performed at locations including an Army camp. A five-year project to help up-and-coming theatre companies and artists is being launched by National Theatre Wales. WalesLab will help hundreds of artists develop their ideas, sharing their work online and at “summer camps”.

Cuts threat to 400 jobs and civic theatre in Darlington

30th October 2010

More than 400 council jobs are set to go and a 107-year-old theatre could close in Darlington because of the effects of government spending cuts. The Labour-controlled authority said it would have to cut £22m from its annual budget of about £107m by 2014.
