City culture at risk from government cuts say venue bosses

Art in Oxford is at risk of being “severely damaged” if venues are hit by funding cuts under the Government’s spending review. Bosses from the Playhouse Theatre, Pegasus Theatre and Modern Oxford say art is vital to the city and must be preserved to protect Oxford’s identity.

Public invite over Theatr Colwyn plans for redevelopment

Plans for a £738,000 redevelopment of Theatr Colwyn in Colwyn Bay are being presented to the public. Work will be carried out on the 125-year-old venue over the winter months. Money will be spent moving the bar and creating a new box office, office space and community room. There will also be disabled access to all floors.

Middleton Popstars’ £70,000 bid for new community theatre 'of dreams'

Queen's Theatre fights threat

Council bosses have vowed to stick by the borough’s only theatre in the face of a potential cut in funding. Queen’s Theatre, in Billet Lane, Hornchurch, has called for a letter writing campaign in response to fears the Arts Council, which organises 11 per cent of the theatre’s funding, will be hit by the upcoming Comprehensive Spending Review.

The National Theatre is in talks to share its back office functions with other London venues, in a bid to reduce costs across the subsidised theatre sector in the capital. Services including box office, legal, HR, contracting, IT support, welfare and occupational health could be provided to other London venues at low or no cost as part of the proposal.
