RSC Stratford-upon-Avon re-opens

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced that the new Royal Shakespeare and Swan Theatres will re-open on the 24th November, following its highly-publicised four-year redevelopment project. Visiting groups are invited to rediscover and explore the new building, which features a 1,000-seat thrust stage auditorium, a 36-metre-high viewing tower, new exhibition spaces, and food outlets including the Rooftop Restaurant and Riverside Cafe.

Leader pledges to rebuild theatre in Tunbridge Wells

The under-fire leader of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has vowed to build a new theatre as part of any redevelopment of the Town Hall site. Councillor Roy Bullock also revealed he hopes to create a cinema on the prime town centre spot – directly opposite the derelict ABC Cinema.

The Royal Shakespeare Company has just announced plans to reopen its spiritual home in Stratford-upon-Avon in two months time. The Royal Shakespeare and Swan theatres will be welcoming its first audiences on time and on budget in November.

Richmond Theatre chief executive Karin Gartzke stands down

The chief executive of Richmond Theatre has stepped down from the role. Karin Gartzke is leaving the post after 12 years at the Little Green Theatre and will take up a position of business development director in the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), which owns and runs the theatre. Mrs Gartzke praised the “dedicated, creative and inspirational” team at the theatre and aid it had been a tough decision to stand down.

Kings Drive plans for the Eastbourne Congress Theatre

It’s good to hear Eastbourne Theatres and Eastbourne Borough Council are doing all they can to complete a series of urgent repairs at the Congress Theatre. The much-loved venue has been hidden by unsightly scaffolding since April when lumps of concrete fell from the theatre. It was clear something needed to be done to ensure the safety of theatre-goers and members of the public and scaffolding was swiftly put up.

Repairs urgently needed at Eastbourne's Congress Theatre

Theatre bosses have revealed a structural repair project is urgently needed at Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre. The grade two listed building has been shrouded in scaffolding and hoarding for months now as experts surveyed the landmark after pieces of concrete began crumbling away and falling off into the street below. This week council bosses said the Congress needs concrete repairs which will be ongoing until the new year.

Volunteers decorate Potters Bar Wyllyotts Theatre

A Potters Bar theatre has been brightened up – thanks to charitable workers at one of the UK’s leading energy companies. Staff from EDF Energy’s Potters Bar offices spent a day last week redecorating the Wyllyotts Theatre – just over the road from the company’s offices in Darkes Lane.

Theatr Powys fears funding shortfall

The future of Theatr Powys is in doubt after Powys County Council lost an appeal to overturn a decision to cut its main funding stream. The council has conceded that it now has to question the Llandrindod Wells based touring theatre company’s viability without Arts Council of Wales funding.
