Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon by Bennetts Associates

Two ‘bold moves’ – a new viewing tower and an auditorium, designed to give the building a new identity – mark out Bennetts Associates’ remodelling the Royal Shakespeare Company’s home. ‘We are at an exciting stage in the project,’ says architect Simon Erridge of Bennetts. Competition for £165m Manchester civic revamp opens

3rd June 2009

Manchester City Council has begun searching for architects to lead the £165 million redevelopment of its historic town hall complex. Two OJEUs have been issued – one for a design team to redevelop the 1930s town hall extension, and a second for a team to redevelop the circular grade II * listed city library. The library project will see the Library Theatre relocated to a new site, allowing the relocation of the County Record Office to the central library.

Further £384,520 funding boost for Edmonton's Millfield Arts Centre

A £384,520 grant to improve facilities at Millfield Arts Centre has been approved by councillors. This will pay for a series of 35 improvements including new auditorium seating, painting the auditorium, landscaping, courtyard paving, theatre performance floor and tabs. The money is in addition to the cash given to the centre in September 2008 to develop the bar and cafe and extend the toilet facilities. The theatre will be closed between now and September to allow for this work to be done.
