Plans for £250m six-star 'spaceship' hotel to replace the former Mermaid theatre

26th May 2009

Alsop Architects have submitted plans to turn London’s Mermaid Conference and Event Centre, a former playhouse theatre, and an adjoining office building into a £250m six-star ‘spaceship’ hotel and event space. In September 2008, the Corporation of London City Planning Committee granted a certificate that stripped the former playhouse of its theatre status. The scheme aims to create a landmark stand-alone building that is intended to rejuvenate one of the few remaining major development sites in the City of London.
