Explore Jacobean theatre on DVD

The Chamber of Demonstrations, a DVD reconstruction of the candlelit Jacobean playhouse, has been created by Professor Martin White and colleagues from Bristol University’s Department of Drama: Theatre, Film and Television. The DVD represents a remarkable theatrical experiment and a breakthrough in theatre research and teaching to shed new light on theatre history of the early modern period.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon by Bennetts Associates

Two ‘bold moves’ – a new viewing tower and an auditorium, designed to give the building a new identity – mark out Bennetts Associates’ remodelling the Royal Shakespeare Company’s home. ‘We are at an exciting stage in the project,’ says architect Simon Erridge of Bennetts. Competition for £165m Manchester civic revamp opens

3rd June 2009

Manchester City Council has begun searching for architects to lead the £165 million redevelopment of its historic town hall complex. Two OJEUs have been issued – one for a design team to redevelop the 1930s town hall extension, and a second for a team to redevelop the circular grade II * listed city library. The library project will see the Library Theatre relocated to a new site, allowing the relocation of the County Record Office to the central library.
