DEFRA's Carbon Reduction Commitment

The new emissions trading scheme (or CRC) aims to reduce carbon emissions by 1.2m tonnes of carbon per year by 2020. It will cover all organisations whose electricity consumption is greater than 6,000MWh/yr per half hour, equivalent to an annual electricity bill of £500k.

The Royal Opera House’s Online Collections have digitised the album of photographs recording the work undertaken by Edwin Otho Sachs (1870-1919) to modernise the stage and production areas of the Royal Opera House in 1900-1901.

Bradford Odeon revamp plans go on display

Plans for a £55m development on the site of Bradford’s historic Odeon cinema are being put on public display. The Bradford Odeon Rescue Group (Borg) have been fighting to save the building which they say is an iconic landmark. Bradford Council said restoring the Princes Way site would be too costly. A new development, with offices and apartments, is planned for the site.

Scarborough Open-air theatre approval likely

26th September 2008

The derelict open-air theatre is due to be transformed to become the centrepiece of a £150m development amid hopes a Yorkshire resort will cultivate an international reputation for the arts. The multi-million-pound scheme is aimed at breathing new life into Scarborough by providing leisure and entertainment facilities. Council officials have recommended the application be given the go-ahead when planning and development councillors meet in early October.
