The Trust’s Building Sustainable Theatres Conference Report is now available to download. Delegates at The Theatres Trust Conference last June at the Cottesloe Theatre in London came up with a number of ‘Theatres Sustainability Principles’ to help theatres manage the effects of climate change and rising energy costs.

£3 million arts prize for Edinburgh

Anonymous donors have put up the £3M prize to fund a new capital project of exceptional merit. The successful project will demonstrate a sound artistic value, robust financial plan, architectural excellence, and establishment of need.

Marlowe theatre redevelopment gets the green light

20th August 2008

Canterbury council’s development control committee has now approved the £25.2 million plans for a 1,200-seat auditorium at the Marlowe Theatre and a second 150-seat performance space. The plans went through on an 11 for and two against vote.

Darlington Civic Theatre listed Grade II

15th August 2008

The Secretary of State, after consulting English Heritage, has decided to list Darlington Civic Theatre at Grade II. The Theatres Trust supported the application for listing as the Civic Theatre is an interesting early example of a variety theatre which has been preserved in its original form despite later additional structures being added.
