Fate of North Somerset's main theatre to be discussed

Councillors are being encouraged to have their say on the future of North Somerset’s main theatre, and museum, and leisure centres. The report also mentions a new online booking system for The Playhouse, which would reduce daytime opening hours and would more than halve the council’s £193,600 subsidy and safeguard its future. Further investigations into whether the theatre could be run by an independent trust are set to continue.

New lease of life for Southend's New Empire Theatre

Amateur dramatic groups could once more be treading the boards at a Southend theatre, which closed suddenly last week because of unpaid rent. Kent-based New World Productions, is running the Christmas pantomime at the New Empire Theatre and met owner Richard Shea yesterday (28th October) to try to hammer out a rescue deal.
