Theatres from across the UK are hoping to win one of the coveted prizes at this year’s ceremony, to be held at the TMA (Theatrical Management Association’s) Annual Lunch. TMA Award Nomination categories include, Most Welcoming Theatre, Manager of the Year, The Renee Stepham Award for the Presentation of Touring Theatre, The Eclipse Award and Achievement in Marketing.

Bristol Old Vic could turn into a cultural hub

The revamped Bristol Old Vic could become a cultural hub for the region after a £9 million refurbishment. Plans for the 241-year-old Theatre Royal are still being developed and aim to complement proposals already agreed to refurbish both the main auditorium and the studio theatre with new seating, lighting and disabled access. A wide-reaching consultation on the plans is already under way.

New measures to improve the energy performance of our buildings

9th May 2008

New guidance has been published by the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) to help public authorities and institutions introduce Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s) in their buildings. This work is part of European legislation – the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. DEC’s come into force on 1 October 2008 for public buildings exceeding 1,000sqm that are frequently visited by the public.

House of Lords debate listed theatres

7th May 2008

During an hour long debate on 7 May 2008 introduced by Lord Lloyd-Webber into the modernisation of listed theatres, the Government’s representative Lord Davies of Oldham highlighted the investment made by the Heritage Lottery Fund into restoring and improving listed theatres and the Government’s commitment to funding the arts through the Arts Council.

The Theatres Trust seeks Chair of Trustees

The Theatres Trust is seeking to appoint a successor to Rupert Rhymes OBE, whose term of office ends on 30 January 2009. The post is a public appointment made by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and applicants are asked to apply through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

The closing date for applications has now passed.
