The Theatres Trust, the National Advisory Public Body for Theatres has published its 2009 Theatre Buildings at Risk Register (TBAR). The top ten theatres at risk include the threatened Opera House in Blackpool, and Derby Hippodrome, whose owner is being prosecuted by Derby City Council. A total of eighty-two theatres are covered in the Register.

The Theatres Trust’s Conference 09, taking place on 9 June 2009 at the Unicorn Theatre in London, considers how different approaches to theatre architecture attract and influence audiences in different ways. In reviewing the year from April 2007 to March 2008, the Trust’s Director, Mhora Samuel said it had been ‘a highly rewarding year, building relationships and communicating our mission’, protecting theatres for everyone. The Theatres Trust responded to 95 statutory consultations on planning applications, 669 local development framework responses and advised on 63 listed building consent applications.
