Theatres Trust announces Theatre Buildings at Risk register 2009

The Theatres Trust, the National Advisory Public Body for Theatres has published its 2009 Theatre Buildings at Risk Register (TBAR). The top ten theatres at risk include the threatened Opera House in Blackpool, and Derby Hippodrome, whose owner is being prosecuted by Derby City Council. A total of eighty-two theatres are covered in the Register.

Rob Dickins CBE appointed as Chairman of The Theatres Trust

The Theatres Trust today announces the appointment of Rob Dickins CBE as Chairman effective as from 1 February 2009. Following his formal invitation from Barbara Follett, Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism and Minister for the East of England.

Theatres Trust publishes its 31st Annual Report

The Theatres Trust’s 31st Annual Report can be downloaded here.

In reviewing the year from April 2007 to March 2008, the Trust’s Director, Mhora Samuel said it had been ‘a highly rewarding year, building relationships and communicating our mission’, protecting theatres for everyone. The Theatres Trust responded to 95 statutory consultations on planning applications, 669 local development framework responses and advised on 63 listed building consent applications.

Theatres Trust calls for Public Inquiry on loss of Farnham Redgrave

The Theatres Trust has urged Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP to use her reserve powers to save Farnham’s only purpose built theatre.

The Theatres Trust announces 50:50 chance for theatres at risk

8th July 2008

Reviewing its own top ten theatres at risk for 2008 in England The Theatres Trust welcomed English Heritage’s new initiative to protect the nation’s heritage. Of the 68 theatres in England on The Theatres Trust’s Theatre Buildings at Risk register (TBAR), 34 currently face an uncertain future and are at high risk.

The top ten theatres in the Trust’s 2008 TBAR include theatres that remain empty, are under threat of demolition, neglect or unsympathetic redevelopment, and lack of funds for repairs and restoration.
