Green light for Alsop’s Puddle Duck City hotel means demolition for Mermaid Theatre

Alsop Sparch has won planning permission for a £250 million Will Alsop designed seven-storey hotel at Puddle Dock in the City of London The 30,000sq m scheme involves demolishing the existing 1970s Mermaid House and Mermaid Theatre.

The Environment Agency and the Theatres Trust have also objected to the scheme, which proposes no replacement for the theatre, and sits in a flood zone.
