Theatres Trust responds to Blackpool Museum proposal for Pavilion
Theatres Trust raised concerns with planning and listed building applications 17/0164 and 17/0165 for part demolition at the Blackpool Winter Gardens to create a museum with a new public entrance from Adelaide Street. The Blackpool Winter Gardens Pavilion is on our Theatres at Risk register 2016.
We are concerned about the impact of the proposed lift core through the centre of the auditorium. We recommended the application be withdrawn to allow the design team to carry out a thorough options analysis that re-examines the visitor circulation needs around the building and explore alternative proposals in line with the Statement of Significance and the need to sustain and enhance the features of special architectural or historic interest.
We are keen to see the museum project come to fruition and will continue to work with the design team to resolve this matter so that the project can move forward.
