Exploring Theatres Launch
On Wednesday 23 April 2008 The Theatres Trust successfully launched its new online learning resource, Exploring Theatres in the sun-lit John Lyon Room at the Unicorn Theatre in London.
Representatives and press gathered from theatre, heritage, architecture, the built environment and education sectors to be introduced to the Trust’s new ‘Exploring Theatres’ learning resource; an introduction to theatre buildings which explains their use and how the design of theatres evolved, and a range of curriculum-linked Key Stage 2 resource sheets.
Mhora Samuel, Director of the Trust warmly welcomed everyone and introduced the Trust’s Records Officer, Fran Birch, who described the history of ‘Exploring Theatres’ and enthusiastically took attendees through the website’s offerings. Kate Carmichael, Resources Officer, then took to the floor and passionately described the Trust’s hopes and aspirations for its new resources, highlighting that ‘this is just the beginning’ and that ‘there is huge potential’. To wrap up, Rupert Rhymes OBE, the Trust’s Chairman thanked the Unicorn and ETC for supporting the launch and encouraged everyone to become engaged with ‘Exploring Theatres’.
