  • Description
Photograph of a sepia-tinted postcard showing the façade and sidewalls of Wimbledon Theatre on the Broadway in Wimbledon, London. The building lies on a prominent corner site in the middle of Wimbledon. It has a brick and stone façade, the outer bays differently treated but both with open pediments over lunettes. The cylindrical corner tower forms the centrepiece of the structure and is crowned by an octagonal Baroque tower with dome, and prominent lantern topped by a globe and single figure. A canopy over steps leading up to the main entrance lies at the base of the corner tower, with THEATRE and MATINEE – WED 2.30 appearing across its face. Large tablature is positioned just above the canopy to read JULIA NEILSON and FRED TERRY. Other doorways are visible along each sidewall, the nearest of which are marked PIT.
