A tree masks part of the left hand side of the theatre. It is a large and symmetrical building with a large open archway on the first floor forming the centrepiece of the façade. The name EMPIRE appears in tablature towards the top of the building, above which some figures guard a spired cupola that crowns the building. EMPIRE also appears in the centre of a canopy over the main entrance, with THE ART OF THE STAGE and THE MUSIC OF THE PEOPLE in smaller lettering either side.
