Façade of the former Astoria, Brighton, 2001
  • Description
Colour photograph showing the façade and part of a sidewall of a disused bingo hall, formerly the Astoria, in Brighton. Taken from across Gloucester Road, it shows a three-storey, flat-roofed block in precast stone, with shops occupying the ground floor (‘Energy Store’, ‘H&H Wooden Flooring’, ‘BSCM Motorcycle Training’ and a newsagent) and ten identical window features at first and second floor level. The plain brick sidewall is in shot on the near corner on the left hand side, and a three-bay entrance block bearing the name ASTORIA is visible to the right and in the background. The entrance block has a large vertical sign bearing the single word BINGO, which masks the first of three tall arched windows that together form the centrepiece of the block. There is a blue canopy over the entrance below.
