  • Description
Black and white engraving showing the façade of Islington Scientific and Literary Institute, later known as the Almeida Theatre, plus caption text. The engraving is taken from oposite the theatre and from a position left of the entrance so that the building is seen from an oblique angle. The façade is in austere classical manner. It consists of three major bays in two storeys, the central bay and flanking porches projecting from the frontage, and the basement rooms railed off at street level. The shell of the auditorium can be seen behind the façade. Caption text states that the engraving was originally presented to the managers of the Institute by the architects R L Roumieu and A D Gough.
