  • Description
Hand-coloured engraving showing the façade of the Adelphi Theatre within a streetscape. The photograph is taken from opposite the main entrance. This narrow façade of 1840 was designed by Samuel Beazley. The entrance is a wide segmental arch leading through to a porch; the main frontage consists of two central windows, one surmounting the other, these being flanked by Corinthian pilasters decorated with panels, above which a projecting entablature carries two seated figures, Momus and Erato, by the sculptor Edward Davis; further up still, the attic storey has a lunette and a crested pediment.
