Details

The De Valence Pavilion was built in the 1970s replacing a 1922 theatre and dance hall. The site had previously (since 1903) the De Valence Gardens. The theatre is a multi-purpose hall, built as an annexe to some council offices. The front façe is an untheatrical modern style equally suitable for commercial premises. The hall is flat-floored with seating which can be removed for functions. There is no fly tower, no grid and no substage machinery. Working room in the wings is complicated by staircases and changes of floor level. At the back of the hall is a raised flat area used as a bar and a restaurant.
