Details
Converted from an assembly hall and used as a theatre in the 1940s and 50s. Now an antique shop. The present façe is incorporated with the adjacent shop, and is therefore indistinguishable from it. The interior is lined with red and yellow bricks with several windows down both sides and a large doorway in the centre of stage right auditorium wall. The ceiling is divided into square wooden panels, those nearest the four sides sloping downwards to meet the tops of the walls. Most panels have small ventilation holes inserted. The main floor is flat, and was during its period as a repertory theatre. The stage has been removed, but the position of the proscenium top can be seen. One of the windows on Stage Right had been converted into a get-in. There was no balcony. The interior has a sparse, bare and cold feel to it. Tradition states that it was an icy and draughty place to sit in.
