Details

Originally a theatre, the Palace became a cinema in the 1930s and is now a bingo hall. It still has a sprung floor from a period of use as a ballroom. It would appear that present entrance foyer and single-storey shops were added to the original front, which had a cupola, now visible only from the side. The original stage door and dock doors can still be seen. There is a box-office, still in use. The ladies powder room from ballroom days is preserved, and original cinema frames advertise the various bingo sessions. There is no balcony. The stage has a false ceiling. There is a fine ornamental iron spiral staircase leading to the former projection room. All in all, an interesting survival.
