Theatre

1485

The building now on the site is a bank. As seen from the street it is of the mid nineteenth century, seven windows wide, three storeys in classical style with stucco dressings and clearly not a theatre of any date. Part of the Fisher theatre was reputedly incorporated into the bank, but the common belief that it is within the main building is unlikely to be correct. A seemingly older and lower structure at the back, incorporated in 1945 is, very possibly, the shell of the theatre, but it is doubtful if the wooden pilasters, referred to in Curtains (1982), still survive. Further investigation is needed.
